PCI Compliancy - deadline July 1st
All Windward Software customers who process, store, or key credit/debit card information in System Five must be PCI compliant by July 1, 2010. This is a PCI Security Standards Council requirement. You may have already received notification from your credit card processing company. If your system is not PCI compliant by July 1, 2010, your credit/debit card processing company may stop processing credit/debit card sales and/or you could recieve a fine for non-compliance.

IMPORTANT: If you are not processing or storing credit/debit card information in System Five, you are not required to upgrade your System Five software. If you are using pin pad technology you will need to ensure your pin pads are PCI compliant. Please contact your pin pad supplier or manufacturer to check for compliance.

Checking System Five for PCI Compliance:
  • Login to System Five. Click on Help from the System Five menu at the top of the screen in the grey bar. Click on About from the Help menu.
  • A window will open to display the system details. The System Five details are at the top of the screen. You will have to scroll down to find the Pervasive Database version information.
  • The PCI Compliant versions are listed in the checklist below. Examples are provided. Please write down the version you are currently running

If you are NOT running the required versions, please call Windward Software and ask for Support. You have until July 1st, 2010 to become PCI Compliant. You will require an appointment to upgrade your software for compliance. We are currently scheduling appointments 1 week out so please act quickly

Mercury Payment Systems' Stand In Service
Did you know that Windward partner Mercury Payment Systems processing offers "Stand In" service?

As far as we know this is the only payment processor who is willing to offer this protection. If the back end processor - global payments goes down, Mercury will provide you an authorization code for transactions during that time. If after the connection is re-established and it turns out that the card should have been declined, then Mercury will "stand in" and pay for the transaction in question. You don't even know that the connection was lost and can keep the lineups in your store moving.

In one recent 13 minute span Mercury processed 1.3 billion dollars worth of transactions and "stood in" for $40,000 dollars of declines for their merchants.
